Lenders on the SALT Platform are carefully screened. All of our lenders are Accredited Investors under Regulation D of 17 CFR § 230.501 et seq., who have passed the SALT Lending Suitability Test.
There are multiple avenues through which a lender (investor) will participate in a loan arranged by SALT.
1. An Accredited Investor who meets suitability requirements can invest US dollars directly with registered investment advisors. In doing so, an investor is able to access our blockchain-backed loans via an actively managed portfolio. Non-US based investors may also choose off-shore parallel investment entities with multiple national currency investment options. In doing so, all loan and terms are established and managed by 3rd party investment management committees.
2. Investors interested in participating only at defined loan terms can establish separate accounts also managed by investment advisors. Such accounts will be managed parallel to other funds, when loan terms match borrower demand. If terms are outside the parameters of the borrowing market, separate account capital may remain un-invested for periods of time.
3. If an investor is a Broker-Dealer or Registered Institutional account, then loans may be available for purchase following origination.
Individual, non-Accredited Investors are not eligible to lend on the SALT platform.
Loans are not currently transferable via any blockchain. The loans themselves are securities that are transferable through existing financial channels. Within our five-year road map, we intend to embed our loan products directly into tokens which will become transferable, coupon-bearing, tokenized securities available to investors in a fully decentralized ecosystem.
